for the morning after an election

“Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.”
Psalms 75:5-7, KJV

do not lift up your horn on high, or speak with haughty neck.’” For not from the east or from the west and not from the wilderness comes lifting up, but it is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another.
Psalm 75:5-7, ESV

Do not lift up your horn against heaven or speak arrogantly.’ ” Exaltation does not come from the east, the west, or the desert, or God is the judge: He brings down one and exalts another.
Psalm 75:5-7, HCSB

Don’t raise your fists in defiance at the heavens or speak with such arrogance.’ ”
For no one on earth—from east or west, or even from the wilderness—should raise a defiant fist. It is God alone who judges; he decides who will rise and who will fall.
Psalm 75:5-7, NLT

KJV makes it clear that promotion comes from the north. So if you want a better job, don’t look around in so many directions that you get a stiff neck, go to Canada! ;-)

At least “stiff neck” makes sense. What on earth is a “haughty neck”? How can a body part have an attitude?

Thanks for that, I needed to hear this from the word of God and not just pundits.

It too often sounds like many of the most influential believers think that salvation comes from having the right government.

So many of my Christian friends have been so worked up about how righteous the Republican candidate is and how evil the Democrat is, when both are church going Christians.

I’m mostly glad that this election might herald an era of moderation in public discourse, for example this oped from a Christian Republican and former Bush administration member or this interview of a former influential Republican congressman.
